The USS Raman was a Starfleet science vessel that became trapped deep in the atmosphere of a gas giant in 2370. The pressure was too great for an away team, so Geordi La Forge used an experimental interface linked to his VISOR to control a probe sent aboard the ship.
In Interface, La Forge found the crew dead and encountered energy beings who appeared to him as his mother, whose ship had recently gone missing. The beings were trapped aboard the Raman, and La Forge moved the ship deeper into the atmosphere so they could return home.
