The small, heavily armed attack ship flown by the Jem'Hadar soldiers of the Dominion.
The Jem'Hadar fighter, often called an attack ship, is the small warship most commonly used by the Dominion. It has a pointed, beetle-like hull and is crewed by Jem'Hadar soldiers, usually under the authority of a Vorta. Its weapons were strong enough to pierce Federation shields that had been designed for other threats.
These ships first showed their strength at the end of Deep Space Nine's second season, when Jem'Hadar fighters crippled the Galaxy-class USS Odyssey and one rammed the larger ship, destroying it. The incident made clear how seriously the Federation had to take the Dominion.
Once the Dominion arrived in the Alpha Quadrant, fighters were present in huge numbers in every major campaign of the Dominion War, often attacking in swarms or alongside larger battle cruisers and Cardassian ships. The USS Defiant, built originally with the Borg in mind, became the station's main counter to them.
