An Earth Cargo Service freighter whose young acting captain took a Nausicaan prisoner in 2152.
The ECS Fortunate was an Earth Cargo Service J-class freighter of the 2150s, crewed by families who spent their lives aboard. In 2152 it was attacked by Nausicaan pirates, and its captain, Keene, was badly injured.
Acting captain Matthew Ryan, who had grown up on the freighter, secretly held a captured Nausicaan and tortured him for information so he could strike back at the raiders. Archer intervened when Ryan's attack threatened to start a wider fight, and Travis Mayweather, himself raised on a cargo ship, helped persuade Ryan to release the prisoner.
