The Earth Cargo Service operated freighters that traveled at low warp speeds on long hauls between Earth and its colonies. Crews often lived aboard for their entire lives, and children born and raised on these ships were nicknamed Boomers. Travis Mayweather was one of them, growing up aboard the ECS Horizon before joining Starfleet as Enterprise's helmsman.
In 2151 Enterprise helped the crew of the ECS Fortunate after an attack by Nausicaan raiders. Mayweather later returned to the Horizon after his father's death and helped his brother defend the ship.
