A key Starfleet starbase that fell to a Klingon house late in the Federation-Klingon War and later served as a repair base for the Enterprise.
Starbase 1 is a major Starfleet facility. In The War Without, The War Within, after Discovery returns from the mirror universe nine months late, Starfleet describes the base as its only safe refuge beyond Earth. When Discovery warps there under Admiral Katrina Cornwell, the crew finds Starbase 1 conquered by a Klingon house, and the remainder of Starfleet Command withdraws to protect Earth itself.
The base reappears in Strange New Worlds. In Spock Amok, the Enterprise undergoes repairs at Starbase One while its crew enjoys shore leave and Admiral Robert April enlists Christopher Pike and Spock for negotiations with the R'ongovians.
In Wedding Bell Blues, the Enterprise has again been repaired at Starbase One following its battles with the Gorn, and the crew prepares to celebrate the Federation's 100th anniversary there.
