The rainy homeworld of the Ferengi and seat of the Grand Nagus.
Ferenginar is the homeworld of the Ferengi, a planet whose climate is damp and rainy and whose cities are crowded with commerce. The Ferengi are famous for their business culture, and their world is defined by markets, contracts and the pursuit of profit, with the Ferengi Commerce Authority regulating many aspects of life.
The planet is the seat of the Grand Nagus, the head of the Ferengi state, and its society is organised around the Rules of Acquisition. For much of its history, Ferenginar was a harsh place for women, who were denied legal rights and the ability to earn profit. The rain and the dense urban landscape give it a distinct, cluttered feel.
Ferenginar is visited in several episodes of Deep Space Nine, and its politics become an important part of the story as the Ferengi change. Rom becomes Grand Nagus after Zek, with support from his wife Leeta and the help of Quark, and the new Nagus introduces reforms. Under his leadership, the Ferengi gradually move toward a fairer society and closer relations with the Federation.
