American space illustrator who helped define the 24th-century look of The Next Generation and co-wrote its Technical Manual.
Rick Sternbach, an American illustrator born in 1951, first worked on the franchise as an illustrator for Star Trek: The Motion Picture. In January 1987 he and Andrew Probert became the first two hires of the art department for Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Sternbach went on to design many of its starships, props and technical details as senior illustrator.
With Michael Okuda he wrote the Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual. He continued on Deep Space Nine and Voyager, contributing to the design of USS Voyager.
