American actress who played Bajoran officer Kira Nerys, first officer of Deep Space 9, throughout all seven seasons of the series.
Nana Visitor is an American actress, born in 1957, best known for playing Kira Nerys on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Before joining the series she worked steadily in stage musicals and in guest roles on television dramas through the 1980s.
As Kira, a former Bajoran resistance fighter serving as the station's first officer, Visitor appeared in every season from 1993 to 1999, as the character rose from major to colonel. The role gave her some of the series' most dramatic material, from episodes confronting the Cardassian occupation such as Duet to Kira's work alongside the Cardassian resistance late in the Dominion War. She also played Kira's ruthless mirror universe counterpart, the Intendant, beginning with Crossover.
After Deep Space Nine, Visitor starred as Jean Ritter in the drama series Wildfire and continued to work on stage and screen, and she has remained a familiar presence at Star Trek events.
