In 2381 the USS Cerritos was assigned to support the USS Archimedes, commanded by Captain Sonya Gomez, on a first-contact mission. A solar flare knocked out the Archimedes' power, and the ship began falling into the gravity well of the planet it was studying.
The crew of the Cerritos modified their ship and used its tractor beam to hold the Archimedes steady, saving it from destruction. The mission ended on a darker note when Captain Carol Freeman was arrested, accused of detonating a Veruvian bomb on the Pakled homeworld.
