In 2369 Deanna Troi, disguised as a Tal Shiar officer, helped the Romulan vice proconsul M'ret defect to the Federation.
In 2369 Deanna Troi was abducted and surgically disguised as Major Rakal, an officer of the Tal Shiar, aboard the Romulan warbird commanded by Toreth. Subcommander N'Vek, part of a dissident network, needed her help to smuggle Vice Proconsul M'ret and two of his aides out of Romulan space.
The defectors were hidden in stasis inside cargo containers. Troi used her assumed authority to overrule Toreth and send them to a Federation ship. N'Vek was killed in the attempt, but M'ret reached safety.
