In 2161 Enterprise NX-01 made its last voyage before decommissioning, as Captain Archer prepared to speak at the signing of the charter founding the United Federation of Planets.
After ten years of service, Enterprise was heading back to Earth for the ceremony when Shran asked for help rescuing his kidnapped daughter. During the mission Trip Tucker sacrificed himself to stop the kidnappers from taking the ship, and he died of his injuries.
Archer then delivered his address at the founding of the Federation. The ship's final days were later recreated on the holodeck of the USS Enterprise-D by William Riker, who studied them while weighing a difficult decision of his own.
