A Bajoran vedek who takes her own life in public protest against the Dominion's occupation of Deep Space Nine.
Vedek Yassim is a Bajoran cleric living under the Dominion occupation of Deep Space Nine in Rocks and Shoals. Disturbed by how easily Bajor has accepted the new order, she resolves to make a statement that cannot be ignored.
Yassim hangs herself on the station in protest, insisting that evil must be opposed. Her death forces Kira to recognize that by going along with the occupation she has become a collaborator, and Kira tells Odo she will begin actively resisting the Dominion.
