Yareena was Lutan's wife and First One on Ligon II, whose land and wealth gave him his power and who fought Tasha Yar in ritual combat.
Yareena was the wife of the Ligonian leader Lutan in Code of Honor. In Ligonian society the men rule while the women hold the land, and it was Yareena's wealth that kept Lutan in his position. When Lutan declared he wanted Tasha Yar as his First One, Yareena challenged Yar to a fight to the death.
During the fight Yar struck Yareena with a poisoned weapon and beamed her to the Enterprise, where Dr. Crusher revived her. Because the ritual death technically ended her marriage, Yareena was free of Lutan and chose a new First One named Hagon, leaving Lutan with nothing. Karole Selmon played her.
