The senior Talosian who oversees Christopher Pike's captivity on Talos IV and directs the illusions meant to make him accept Vina as a mate.
The Keeper is the leading figure among the Talosians, the large-headed, telepathic survivors of a war-ravaged civilization living beneath the surface of Talos IV. In The Cage he speaks for his people, watching Captain Christopher Pike through the walls of his menagerie enclosure and explaining, with cool detachment, why he has been taken.
The Keeper's plan is to breed a race of human servants to rebuild the planet's surface, using Pike and Vina, the survivor of an earlier crash. When Pike resists every illusion and the Talosians learn that humans would rather die than live in captivity, the Keeper releases the Enterprise crew and allows Vina to remain behind with the illusion of beauty. His scenes were reused in The Menagerie.
