A member of the androgynous J'naii who fell in love with William Riker and was punished by her society for identifying as female.
Soren was a J'naii, a people who rejected gender as primitive. In The Outcast she worked with Riker to rescue a J'naii shuttle lost in a pocket of null space, and she confided that she secretly identified as female, which her society considered a sickness.
Soren and Riker fell in love, but she was arrested and put on trial. She defended her right to be who she was, but she was sentenced to psychotectic therapy. Riker and Worf tried to rescue her, but by then she had been altered, and she no longer wanted to be with Riker.
