A young Enterprise medical technician hounded during Norah Satie's investigation because he had hidden his Romulan ancestry.
Simon Tarses is a crewman serving as a medical technician aboard the Enterprise. To join Starfleet he claimed that his grandfather was Vulcan, concealing that the man was actually Romulan.
In The Drumhead, Tarses comes under suspicion because he had contact with the spy J'Ddan. Even after the ship's engine explosion is shown to be an accident, Admiral Norah Satie pursues him relentlessly and exposes his heritage at a hearing. Picard defends him, and Satie's inquiry collapses after it turns on Picard himself.
