A Starfleet officer driven to sabotage by hallucinations that turned out to be messages from beings living in the deuterium.
Saul Ramon is the officer responsible for sabotaging a deuterium refinery in Lost in Translation. When the Enterprise and the USS Farragut arrive to repair the facility, Pelia discovers the sabotage, and Ramon is taken to sickbay showing symptoms much like the hallucinations troubling Nyota Uhura.
Ramon escapes and tries to sabotage the Enterprise. Uhura pursues him, but he is blown into space by an explosion as James Kirk rescues her. Uhura later realizes that the visions are messages from aliens living in the deuterium who are being killed by the refinery.
