A Starfleet captain who violated the Prime Directive on Omega IV, using phasers to support one side of a war in search of immortality.
Ronald Tracey commands the USS Exeter, whose crew dies of a disease contracted on Omega IV. Tracey survives on the planet's surface, where the natives appear to live for centuries, and he arms the Kohms against their rivals in the hope of discovering the secret of longevity.
When Kirk arrives, Tracey tries to make him an ally and then an enemy, but McCoy finds that the long life of the people is natural and not a medical discovery. The Yangs defeat the Kohms, and Kirk and Tracey fight in front of the Yang leaders before Tracey is arrested. He was played by Morgan Woodward.
