Ptera was a Vhnori woman who passed through her people's death ritual and arrived not in an afterlife but on an asteroid in a planetary ring system, the burial ground Voyager's away team had been exploring. Her body appeared just as Harry Kim vanished into a vacuole.
In Emanations, the Doctor revived her, and she was devastated to find that the Next Emanation was not what she had been taught. Desperate to return home, she agreed to be sent back through a forming vacuole, but the attempt failed and her lifeless body came back wrapped in the burial shroud.
