The wife and science officer of Kang, who helped Kirk show the Klingons that an alien entity was manipulating both crews into war.
Mara serves as science officer aboard her husband Kang's ship when its crew and Kirk's are drawn together by a being that feeds on hatred. Trapped aboard the Enterprise with swords as the only weapons, Klingons and humans fight endlessly while the entity heals the wounded so that the violence can continue.
Captured by Kirk, Mara comes to believe his account of the entity and persuades Kang to listen. The two crews end their fight with laughter, driving the being from the ship. She was played by Susan Howard.
