The young navigator of Christopher Pike's Enterprise who joins the landing party on Talos IV in The Cage.
José Tyler serves as navigator aboard the Enterprise during Christopher Pike's command. In The Cage he is one of the officers who beam down to Talos IV to answer what appears to be a distress call from the long-lost survey expedition of the SS Columbia, and he is present when the supposed survivors, among them Vina, are found.
After Pike is captured, Tyler takes part in the crew's efforts to reach him, which the Talosians defeat through illusion. The role was played by Peter Duryea, and his footage later appeared in the two-part The Menagerie when the pilot was folded into the series.
