A Trill and former host of the Tal symbiont whose consciousness lived on with Adira before being placed in a synthetic body.
Gray Tal was a Trill and Adira Tal's boyfriend. He became the host of the Tal symbiont after Admiral Senna Tal died, but was killed shortly afterward, and Adira, though human, took the symbiont to save it and its memories.
Gray's consciousness remained with Adira through the symbiont, at first visible and audible only to them. Hugh Culber and Adira later transferred him into a synthetic body using the same kind of technology that had preserved Jean-Luc Picard, and aboard Discovery he helped the ship's computer Zora steady herself by playing a game with her before leaving for Trill to train as a guardian.
When Discovery's crew visited Trill during the search for the Progenitors' technology, Gray and Adira reunited and agreed to end their relationship because their lives were heading in different directions.
