A mute alien, native to the starless void, whom the Doctor named and helped communicate through music.
Fantome is a member of a species native to the empty region of space in The Void, found wounded aboard a raided ship and brought to Voyager for treatment. He cannot speak and does not understand the crew's language, but he responds to sound and music, and the Doctor, who gives him his name, and Seven of Nine build a way to communicate with him through music.
Other captains regard his kind as vermin. When Valen and Bosaal attack the alliance, Fantome's people beam aboard their ships and disable their engines, helping Janeway's alliance escape.
