A negotiator who secretly used his partial Betazoid empathy to win bidding rights to an apparently stable wormhole, and who briefly won Deanna Troi's heart.
Devinoni Ral represented the Chrysalians in The Price, an auction held aboard the Enterprise-D for the rights to a wormhole near Barzan II. He was charming and persuasive, and he quickly began a romance with Deanna Troi.
Troi discovered that Ral was a quarter Betazoid and had been using his empathic sense to manipulate the negotiations. The wormhole turned out to be unstable, leaving a Ferengi ship stranded far away in the Delta Quadrant. Ral won the rights, but Troi refused to stay with him.
