The Roman-style proconsul who rules on 892-IV, where gladiatorial combat is broadcast on television, and who holds Kirk's party captive.
Claudius Marcus is the proconsul in the Roman Empire that still rules the planet 892-IV in the twentieth-century technological age. In Bread and Circuses, he presides over a society where slaves fight in arenas shown on television, and he has absorbed the survivors of the wrecked SS Beagle, including its captain R. M. Merik.
Claudius wants the Enterprise crew to join his society and orders Spock and McCoy into the arena while he entertains Kirk. When the Enterprise crew create a distraction, Merik turns against him and is killed, allowing Kirk's escape. He was played by Logan Ramsey.
