Turbolift

Internal transport system aboard ships and stations

Turbolifts are the high-speed cars that carry crew members horizontally and vertically through a starship or space station.

A turbolift travels through shafts running throughout the vessel, responding to voice commands naming a deck or location such as the bridge or engineering. The cars connect nearly every part of a ship and are the main way officers move between their stations.
Because turbolifts depend on power, they can trap passengers during emergencies. Crews may be forced to climb out through access hatches and continue through Jefferies tubes. Their short rides also double as moments for private conversation between officers.
