The USS Zhukov was an Ambassador-class starship of the 24th century, the same class as the Enterprise-C. Reginald Barclay was assigned there before joining the Enterprise-D engineering staff, and his former captain sent him off with a strong recommendation.
In Hollow Pursuits, Barclay's new colleagues found his nervousness and habit of retreating into holodeck fantasies difficult to work with, and Riker suspected that the glowing report from the Zhukov had been intended mainly to see Barclay transferred elsewhere. With Geordi La Forge's patience, Barclay proved his worth by solving a dangerous malfunction aboard the Enterprise.
