The Starfleet ship on which James T. Kirk served as a young officer, where a vampire cloud killed much of the crew.
The USS Farragut was a Starfleet starship on which James T. Kirk served early in his career. Under Captain Garrovick, the Farragut encountered a gaseous vampire cloud near Tycho IV in 2257, and the creature killed some two hundred crew, including the captain.
Kirk blamed himself for hesitating to fire on the creature, a burden he carried until he met it again aboard the Enterprise in 2268. Kirk was later first officer of the Farragut in the years before his own command, and a ship of the same name was among those lost at Vulcan in the Kelvin timeline.
