Borg scout ships were small Borg craft, far smaller than a cube, carrying only a handful of drones. They were used to explore and to gather information for the Collective.
In I, Borg, the Enterprise-D found a crashed Borg scout ship on a moon in 2368. A single young drone, Third of Five, had survived, and Crusher treated him aboard the ship. Named Hugh by La Forge, he developed a sense of individuality, and Picard abandoned a plan to use him to spread a destructive program through the Collective before returning him to the crash site.
