Solais V is home to two factions locked in a war that had lasted for centuries. In Loud as a Whisper the Enterprise brought the renowned mediator Riva to the planet to negotiate an end to the fighting, at the request of the warring sides.
When the delegations met, one Solari fighter opened fire and killed Riva's chorus, the telepathic companions who spoke for him. Riva chose to stay on Solais V anyway, planning to teach the factions his sign language so that working together to learn it could become the start of peace.
