In Fair Trade, Voyager's approach to the Expanse left Neelix anxious that he would no longer be useful as a guide, since he had never traveled beyond it. That fear pushed him into a risky deal with his old friend Wixiban. Voyager entered the Expanse afterward, beginning a stretch of the journey through space unknown to anyone aboard.
