Hysperia is a society modeled on fantasy and Renaissance traditions, founded on a world colonized by fantasy enthusiasts. It is ruled by Queen Paolana, and her son Andy Billups was its crown prince before he gave up his birthright to become a Starfleet engineer.
By Hysperian tradition, the heir who loses his virginity ascends the throne, which is why Paolana keeps trying to lure Billups home. In Where Pleasant Fountains Lie, she hails the Cerritos for help with her ship's engines as part of one such scheme, which Rutherford foils at the last moment.
