American science fiction author who wrote two Original Series episodes, including Amok Time, which established much of Vulcan biology and ritual.
Theodore Sturgeon (1918–1985) was an American author of science fiction, fantasy and horror, known for the novel More Than Human and for the maxim known as Sturgeon's Law. He wrote hundreds of short stories and reviews over a long career.
For Star Trek he wrote Shore Leave, set on a planet where the crew's thoughts take physical form, and Amok Time, the second-season opener. Amok Time introduced pon farr and the Vulcan marriage ritual, brought T'Pau and T'Pring to the screen and is remembered for the first use of the Vulcan salute. Several other scripts he wrote for the series were never produced.
