Jay Chattaway, an American composer born in 1946, wrote music for Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise. His Next Generation work includes The Inner Light, whose simple flute melody, played by Picard on the Ressikan flute, became one of the series' most recognized musical moments.
Chattaway won an Emmy Award in 2001 for his score for the Voyager finale Endgame. Years before joining Star Trek, he arranged and produced a 1979 recording of Jerry Goldsmith's Star Trek theme.
