Composer — The Original Series theme

American composer and orchestrator who wrote the theme music of The Original Series, including its famous opening fanfare.

Alexander Courage (1919–2008) was an American composer, arranger and orchestrator for film and television. Hired at Jerry Goldsmith's suggestion, he wrote the Star Trek main theme and scored the two pilots, The Cage and Where No Man Has Gone Before, followed by The Man Trap and The Naked Time. He also created the whooshing sound heard as the Enterprise passes the camera.
Courage returned in the third season to score The Enterprise Incident and Plato's Stepchildren. He later orchestrated Goldsmith's music for Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and his opening fanfare has been quoted in many later Star Trek films and series. He died in 2008.
