Worf serves as first officer under General Martok on a demoralized Klingon ship sent to find a missing vessel.
General Martok is given command of the Bird of Prey Rotarran and sent to find the B'Moth, a Klingon ship lost near the Cardassian border. Worf joins him as first officer and Jadzia Dax signs on as science officer. The crew is badly demoralized after repeated defeats by the Jem'Hadar, and Martok, scarred by his time in a Dominion prison camp, keeps avoiding combat.
When Martok refuses to cross the border to rescue the B'Moth, Worf challenges him for command. During their knife fight Worf sees Martok's old fire return and lets him win. The revived crew defeats a Jem'Hadar ship and saves the B'Moth's survivors, and the grateful Martok welcomes Worf into his house.
