The crew faces a mysterious ship and a lack of weapons.
Enterprise is harassed by an alien ship that refuses to communicate and repeatedly attacks, outclassing the starship's weak weapons. Archer considers heading back to Earth for an upgrade, but instead Reed and Tucker rush to install and test new phase cannons.
In a lighter subplot, Sato tries to discover Reed's favorite food for his birthday, contacting his family and colleagues and learning how little anyone knows about him. The answer turns out to be pineapple. With the new weapons ready, Archer forces the aliens to retreat. The episode was directed by Winrich Kolbe and written by Andre Bormanis.
