Serova is a scientist from Hekaras II who, with her brother Rabal, concluded that the repeated use of warp drive in the Hekaras Corridor was tearing apart subspace near their homeworld. When the Federation dismissed their research, they planted disguised mines to disable passing ships.
In Force of Nature, Serova grows desperate when the Enterprise crew asks for more time to verify her theory. She causes a warp breach aboard her own ship, killing herself and creating a subspace rift that proves her claim. Her sacrifice leads the Federation to impose new speed limits.
