A Malon waste hauler who offered to guide Voyager out of the starless Void in exchange for a captured native alien.
Emck is the captain of a Malon export vessel encountered in the Void, the vast starless expanse Voyager is crossing in Night. After chasing off the small ships that disabled Voyager, he offers to lead the crew to a vortex out of the region if they hand over the alien they have captured.
Janeway learns that Emck and his fellow Malon dump toxic theta radiation into the Void through that vortex, poisoning its native inhabitants. When she offers him Federation technology that would recycle the waste, he refuses because it would end his trade as a hauler. Voyager, aided by the native aliens, fights his ship and collapses the vortex.
