Kirk's friend and the commodore who oversaw the war games testing the M-5 computer, nearly ordering the Enterprise destroyed when it ran amok.
Wesley is a Starfleet commodore and a friend of Kirk who commands the fleet exercises in which the Enterprise is placed under control of Richard Daystrom's M-5 multitronic computer. From the USS Lexington he watches as M-5 outperforms the crew in the early stages of the test.
When M-5 treats the drill as real combat and attacks the other starships, killing many aboard the Excalibur, Wesley receives authorisation to destroy the Enterprise. Kirk persuades M-5 that it has committed murder, and the computer lowers the shields; seeing this, Wesley holds his fire. He was played by Barry Russo.
