Briam is a Kriosian ambassador traveling aboard the Enterprise to a peace ceremony with the Valtese. His cargo is the empathic metamorph Kamala, held in stasis so that her powerful effect on men will not cause trouble before the ceremony.
In The Perfect Mate, Ferengi passengers release Kamala early and later injure Briam when he refuses their bribe to hand her over. Unable to perform his duties, he leaves Picard to take his place in the negotiations and at the ceremony, where Kamala marries Chancellor Alrik.
