The Kreetassans are a species with strict rules of etiquette. Eating is a deeply private act to them, so when crew members of Enterprise NX-01 ate in front of a Kreetassan delegation in Vox Sola, the visitors left offended.
In A Night in Sickbay, Enterprise needed a plasma injector from the Kreetassans, but talks failed after Porthos urinated on a sacred tree. To make amends, Jonathan Archer performed an apology ritual, cutting up a tree trunk, arranging the wood in a pattern and reciting Kreetassan phrases. The ship received the parts it needed.
