Blue-skinned humanoids with a ridge down the centre of the face, often seen serving in Starfleet and the Federation.
Bolians are a humanoid people from the planet Bolarus IX, noted for their blue skin and the ridge that runs down the centre of the head. They are generally friendly and sociable, and members of the species have a reputation for being talkative and good at working with others.
Bolarus joined the Federation, and Bolians became a familiar sight in Starfleet and in civilian life across known space. Among their well-known roles are service as engineers, as officers and as barbers, and Bolians are often shown living comfortably alongside other Federation citizens.
The most memorable Bolian in the Next Generation is Mr. Mot, the Enterprise-D barber, who appears in a number of episodes and is a favourite of the crew. Other Bolians are seen in the background of Deep Space Nine and Voyager. Their steady presence helped establish how widely the Federation's population extends across the stars.
