The Saber-class was a compact Starfleet starship of the late 24th century, with a small saucer and nacelles tucked close against the hull. Its size suited it to escort and patrol duties alongside larger vessels rather than independent exploration.
Saber-class ships took part in the Battle of Sector 001 in 2373, when Starfleet gathered a fleet to stop a Borg cube approaching Earth and the Enterprise-E arrived to help destroy it. The class went on to appear in Starfleet fleets during the battles of the Dominion War.
