A Federation science laboratory where Carol Marcus and her team developed the Genesis Device, seized by Khan Noonien Singh in 2285.
Regula I is a Federation research station orbiting the planetoid Regula. In the 2280s it was the headquarters of the Genesis Project, a secret effort led by Dr. Carol Marcus and her son David to create a device that could turn a lifeless world into a living one. The station was carefully hidden in deep space and staffed by a small team of scientists.
In 2285 Khan Noonien Singh, having seized the USS Reliant, learned of the project and attacked the station. He killed most of the staff and tried to take the Genesis Device, but Carol and David had moved it into a cave deep inside the planetoid. Kirk's crew arrived to find the station in ruins and were trapped by Khan, who later stole the device and used it in a final battle that led to Spock's death.
Regula I is central to the story of The Wrath of Khan and the Genesis Project. Its work created both the Genesis Planet and a new threat that would shape the next films, making it one of the most significant science stations in Federation history.
