Meridian is a planet in the Gamma Quadrant that spends most of its time in another dimension, where its people exist only as consciousness. In Meridian, it materializes in front of the Defiant for a span of just twelve days before it is due to vanish for sixty years, and each return is shorter than the last.
The crew helps stabilize the planet so that its next stay in normal space will last thirty years. Jadzia Dax falls in love with Deral and tries to shift with him, but her body cannot follow, and the planet disappears without her.
