A small planetoid where the energy being called the Companion has kept Zefram Cochrane alive and young for more than a century.
Gamma Canaris N is a planetoid in the Gamma Canaris region with a breathable atmosphere and a mild climate. According to Metamorphosis, the inventor of warp drive, Zefram Cochrane, came here when he left to spend his final years in space. The Companion, a cloud of energy, rejuvenated him and has kept him alive since.
When the Companion brings the shuttlecraft Galileo to the planetoid so that Cochrane will have company, Kirk, Spock, McCoy and Commissioner Nancy Hedford are stranded there. Interference prevents the shuttle from leaving until the Companion is persuaded to let them go, and Cochrane decides to remain on the planetoid.
