The binary star system on the edge of Federation space where the USS Shenzhou met T'Kuvma's fleet in 2256, igniting the Federation-Klingon War.
The Binary Stars is the binary star system at the edge of Federation space where the USS Shenzhou investigates a damaged satellite in The Vulcan Hello. Near it Michael Burnham discovers an ancient carved vessel hidden from sensors, accidentally kills the Klingon Torchbearer, and sees T'Kuvma's ship decloak as he summons the leaders of the Klingon houses.
In Battle at the Binary Stars, the Klingons open fire on the Starfleet ships gathered there. Admiral Anderson's ship is rammed, Captain Philippa Georgiou is killed aboard T'Kuvma's vessel, and Burnham kills T'Kuvma, turning him into a martyr and launching a full war.
