William Ware Theiss

Costume designer — The Original Series

American costume designer who created the uniforms and often daring guest costumes of The Original Series and later dressed The Next Generation.

William Ware Theiss (1931–1992) was an American costume designer for film and television. Gene Roddenberry hired him for Star Trek, where he designed the crew's uniforms and an array of memorable alien and guest costumes, many of them striking for their revealing cuts, such as the android outfit in What Are Little Girls Made Of? and the gown worn in Who Mourns for Adonais?
Theiss returned as costume designer on the early seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation and won an Emmy Award for The Big Goodbye. His film credits include Spartacus, Harold and Maude and Bound for Glory.
