Cuban-born American writer and producer who served as showrunner of Star Trek: Enterprise during its fourth and final season.
Manny Coto was a Cuban-born American screenwriter, director and producer. Before Star Trek he built a career in genre film and television, directing features and creating the science fiction series Odyssey 5.
Coto joined Star Trek: Enterprise during its third season as a writer and producer, contributing episodes such as Similitude to the Xindi arc. For the fourth season he took over as executive producer and showrunner, reshaping the series around short multi-episode arcs that explored the roots of the Federation and leaned into connections with the original series, including the mirror universe story In a Mirror, Darkly, whose first part he wrote.
After Enterprise ended, Coto became an executive producer and writer on the action drama 24 for several seasons and later worked as an executive producer and writer on Dexter. He died in 2023.
